FOS policy on what to do if a business makes a false representation, and how this affects a decision

An FOI request asked FOS what they would do if a business made a false representation and how this affected the FOS’s decision when it is discovered.  It appears that no standard policy or guidance on what to do is provided.   Hmmmmmm….

Question asked
“Can you please advise on the actions you take when you become aware that a complained about business has made a fraudulent submission (ie. a false representation) which is (or is intended to be, or was) used by an adjudicator/ombudsman when deciding a complaint?   When you later become aware of a submission that was fraudulent, how does  this affect any published ombudsman decision?”

Response from FOS
Unfortunately we don’t hold any recorded information on how we’d approach the specific situation that you’ve highlighted. If we became aware of any fraudulent behaviour by either party to a complaint, we’d have to assess the information in respect of the circumstances of each case. For that reason, each case would have to be considered on an individual basis.
